Rebekah Baines Johnson Center Redevelopment
The RBJ Center Redevelopment was a multi-year, multi-phase project that revived the under-utilized center to allow it to expand its important offerings to the community. The project is a 17 acre master planned development and includes: two commercial office buildings at 32,000 SF and 20,000 SF; redevelopment and construction of 250 multifamily apartments; and a 30 unit boutique hotel. The project also includes 500 affordable housing units and 3 acres for a 340-unit apartment community. Planning and permitting took several years and included multiple meetings with the ECC Neighborhood Association and the Austin Geriatric Center Board.
This project also included infrastructure such as public intersections, private roadways, utilities, and other site improvements, ultimately supporting new affordable housing, market-rate housing, and renovation of the existing 16-story tower. The project goal is to double the affordable housing capacity to approximately 500 units.
“There are a lot of smart people out there, but not many who have good judgment and can guide you in a multi-disciplinary way. We needed somebody who could take responsibility for our project, and CPM has done that exceptionally well.”
-Clarke Heidrick, Partner, McGinnis Lochridge; Chairman of the Board, RBJ Center
